EDCOUCH, Texas – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development approved a loan of $8,540,00 for the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District (ISD) in Edcouch, Texas. The funds will be used to build a Career and Technology Program building and maintenance facility building for the school district. The existing High School Career & Technology Education Building is not equipped to provide students with the vocational certifications necessary to enter the workforce.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that Eric Ledesma of Juarez Lincoln High School in Mission, Texas, has won the 2017 Congressional App Challenge for the 15th District of Texas with his ‘Financial Calculator' mobile application. The Congressional App Challenge occurs each year and is a public effort to encourage students to learn how to code, through district-wide competitions hosted by each Member of Congress.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has awarded $293,800 Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grant to Proyecto Azteca. The funds will be used to provide Self-Help Housing technical assistance to 15 households in Hidalgo County, Texas, for the construction of new homes over a two-year period.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is encouraging educators and non-profits in the 15th District of Texas to apply for available grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Office of Environmental Education is now taking applications for its Environmental Education Local Grants Program. Proposals are due March 15, 2018.

These academies include the: U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. (West Point); U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

WASHINGTONCongressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Henry Cuellar (TX-28) voted to reopen the federal government after a three-day government shutdown. The continuing resolution passed by a vote of 266 Yeas to 150 Nays in the U.S. House of Representatives and will keep the government funded until February 8, 2018. It passed in the U.S. Senate by a total vote of 81 Yeas to 18 Nays— 49 Republicans and 32 Democrats voted in favor. Last Thursday, the Congressmen were among six House Democrats who voted to avert a government shutdown.
