WASHINGTON – Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Alexander X. Mooney (WV-02) introduced H.R. 4905, the Improvement of Mapping, Addresses, Geography, Elevation, and Structures (IMAGES) Act of 2018, to urge Congress to enhance the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), regulated under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The congressmen crafted the IMAGES Act to provide accuracy within the NFIP, which provides affordable premiums for homeowners by reforming a critical missing piece from last year's devastating hurricane season – flood maps.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is allocating over $23 million in Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Election Security Grant Program funding to the state of Texas for fiscal year 2018. The Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2018 included $380 million for the election security state grants that were authorized by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (P.L. 107-252). These grants have not been appropriated since fiscal year 2010.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now accepting applications for Community Connect grants that fund broadband infrastructure projects in rural communities. The application period closes on Monday, May 14, 2018.

"Rapid innovations in technology present new challenges - and new opportunities - for South Texas," Congressman Gonzalez said. "By investing in broadband, we open the door to more educational, employment, and healthcare opportunities in our rural communities."

The House passed the bill on Thursday, March 22, 2018, by a vote of 256-167. The Senate advanced the measure by a vote of 65-32. President Donald J. Trump signed the funding package this afternoon.
