April 23, 2018

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now accepting applications for Telemedicine grants. The deadline to submit an application is Monday, June 4, 2018.

"The ability to connect rural areas with healthcare providers is a game changer for communities throughout the country," Congressman Gonzalez said. "Grants like this can connect South Texans to 21st century healthcare services that can improve their quality of life."

The USDA will be accepting applications for grants that range from $50,000 to $500,000 as directed by the Distance Learning Telemedicine (DLT) program. These awards will be utilized to promote job training, academic instruction, and expand access to specialized health options.

With this grant program, USDA seeks to give communities the resources they need to provide prevention, treatment, and recovery options. In addition, the USDA is prioritizing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) grants to open doors for rural students pursuing careers in these fields.

Eligible applicants for these grants are:

  • Local government entities;
  • Federally recognized tribes;
