WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) joined fellow Members of Congress in signing a discharge petition to bring H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, for a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. A discharge petition would force a vote on a bill, after at least seven legislative days, once218 members have signed the petition.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced over $62 million in federal funding for Region One Education Service Center (ESC) and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to be distributed over a span of seven years from the U.S. Department of Education’s Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP). Specifically, UTRGV will receive $28,772,800 and Region One ESC will receive $33,818,400.  

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS– Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced an additional $17,955,991 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Shelter and Services Program (SSP), which financially supports border communities and entities providing humanitarian services to migrants. This funding will go directly to eligible local governments and non-federal entities throughout South Texas.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last evening, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) sent a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms Inc., outlining concerns over the platform shadow-banning athletes’ accounts for their shooting related sports content. These include the censorship of Team USA Olympic and Paralympic athletes – Conner Prince and Vincent Hancook, Olympic Men’s Skeet and McKenna Geer, Paralympic Para Shooting.   

SAN BENITO, TEXAS – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced further funding to improve and modernize Texas’s water retention infrastructure. Cameron County Irrigation District No. 2 will receive $1.65 million through the Inflation Reduction Act. This is on top of the nearly $1 million that Congressman Gonzalez and U.S.

HARLINGEN, TEXAS – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced $3,828,739 in federal funding for the City of Harlingen from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This award comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program and will support the fourth and final phase of the Valley International Airport improvement projects.

PORT ISABEL, TEXAS – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced that the Port Isabel San Benito Navigation District has been awarded $1,590,000 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) for significant port improvements. This funding will enhance berthing capabilities and provide logistical support for local businesses, boosting growth and investment in South Texas.
