Congressman Gonzalez Announces Over $1 Million in Additional Federal Funding for Valley International Airport in Harlingen

December 10, 2024

Funding Comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

HARLINGEN, TEXAS –Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34)announced $1,128,000 in additional federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the ongoing replacement of the ADA-compliant air traffic control tower at Valley International Airport (VIA).

This follows two additional federal funding awards for VIA that Congressman Gonzalez announced earlier this year, totaling over $7 million in federal funding for this project.

Funding for this grant comes from the FAA Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Gonzalez supported. The grant will fund portions of interior construction of the new contract tower to ensure facilities and workspaces are accessible for air traffic controllers and other personnel.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is continuing to deliver results for South Texas,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “The construction of this tower is a critical investment not just for Valley International, but for South Texas, as it will allow our region to meet today’s commercial travel demands while preparing for the future.”
