WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the City of Edinburg a $1,288,821 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant. This funding will allow the City of Edinburg Fire Department to hire an expected 12 new firefighters.

WASHINGTON –Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue's is included Duval and Jim Hogg Counties in a Secretarial Disaster Designation to provide farm operators eligibility and access to recovery assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).

Texas counties affected by recent severe drought and included in this designation are: Atascosa, Duval, Frio, Jim Hogg, Maverick, McMullen, Zapata, and Zavala Counties.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) recently returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation to Asia, headed by House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (TX-05). The group traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, China, and South Korea where they participated in meetings with high-level civilian, military, and private sector leaders to discuss intellectual property protections and market access for American businesses and the importance of denuclearizing North Korea.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) has announced that the U.S. Census Bureau will be accepting applications for a Partnership Specialist in Hidalgo County, Texas, from September 6 – September 20, 2018. In order to be considered, applicants must be current residents of Cameron or Hidalgo Counties.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $750,000 in federal funds to Duval and Jim Hogg Counties for Fiscal Year 2018. These awards are through the Operation Stonegarden Program (OPSG) for their efforts in prevention, protection and response to security issues on our border.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), Filemon Vela (TX-34), and Henry Cuellar (TX-28) issued a joint statement in response to Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales' decision not to renew the mandate for the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala, more commonly referred to as CICIG (Comisión Internacional contra la Impunidad en Guatemala). The current mandate expires in September 2019.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Henry Cuellar (TX-28) have announced that the Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $100,000 to South Texas College (STC) in McAllen, Texas for workforce and economic development.

This EDA investment will support South Texas College and the Starr County Industrial Foundation as they develop the Starr County Strategic Plan. The Plan will be focused on diversifying and boosting economic development throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
