WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump's announcement to join efforts to reopen the federal government, ending the longest-ever government shutdown – 35 days – in history. The continuing resolution will extend government funding for three weeks until February 15, 2019, and provide backpay to federal employees who have missed paychecks since December 22, 2018.
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) joined the Blue Dog Coalition in a letter to leadership of both parties and both chambers of Congress regarding border security and the government shutdown. So far, the government shutdown is costing the U.S. economy about $26 billion—according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that amount is almost equal to the average cost of damage from a hurricane.

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) introduced the This Land Is Our Land Act to prohibit the U.S. Department of Homeland Security or U.S. Department of Defense from constructing any new border barriers, including walls or fences, on federal land under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of Agriculture or the Secretary of the Interior.
