WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) has awarded $143,300 in federal funding to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Medicine's Department of Biomedical Sciences. Funding will be used to examine how cellular proteins in white blood cells impact inflammatory responses in skeletal muscle and better understand the connection between inflammatory responses and insulin resistance, which is a major determinant in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

WASHINGTON—Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) recently sent a letter to inform the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) that constituents in South Texas have been experiencing prolonged broadcasting lapses from two local PBS stations. McAllen, Texas organization, R Communications Media Group, is currently working to fix the issue and has confirmed the transmitter is malfunctioning.

WASHINGTON—Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Bruce Poliquin (ME-02) introduced H.R. 5654, the VAWA Protections for Rural Women Act of 2018, that will add the Rural Housing Voucher program to the list of covered housing programs under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). This is another crucial step toward protecting victims of domestic violence from homelessness.

These academies include the: U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. WASHINGTON – Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and John Faso (NY-19) announced the introduction of H.R. 5618, The Flooded Homeowner Financial Relief Act of 2018. This legislation will provide regulatory relief for homeowners who face onerous and unnecessary flood insurance premiums on homes that the government has already agreed to acquire.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the McAllen Vet Center Mobile Unit will be stationed at the Edinburg Conference Center for three days, starting today. The congressman encourages all U.S. military veterans in the 15th District of Texas to utilize Vet Center services as well as Valley Metro's free rides for veterans offered for the entirety of 2018. The Mobile Vet Center (MVC) will be open for business during the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that NeighborWorks America, an organization funded by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, has awarded a $431,000 grant to Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. Affordable Homes of South Texas will use the funds to promote affordable housing, revitalize neighborhoods, and spur job growth in Texas.
