Congressman Gonzalez Responds to the Administration’s Potential Temporary Relocation of 20,000 Immigrant Children to Military Bases in Texas
June 25, 2018
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement in response to the administration's plans to utilize U.S. military bases in Texas as a temporary relocation site for 20,000 detained immigrant children.
"While I retain my objection to the Trump administration's ‘zero-tolerance' policy, multiple administrations have used military bases for the temporary relocation of American detainees," Congressman Gonzalez said. "However, this is another example of the current administration's after-the-fact scrambling to make up for poor planning. You should have the necessary resources in place before enacting a policy. In the future, I would caution President Trump and his administration to look before they leap."
