He works to ensure that South Texas K-12 schools receive proper funding to equip teachers and prepare young people for the challenges they may face in the classroom and beyond.
Congressman Gonzalez is a strong supporter of Head Start, Title I, GEAR-UP, Pell Grant, and other programs that support early childhood, secondary, and post-secondary education that enable children from all backgrounds to graduate from high school prepared for college and fulfill their academic potential.
Congressman Gonzalez realizes that while invaluable, a top-notch education can come at a high price. He is a staunch supporter of efforts to reduce student loan debt and make college more accessible and affordable.

WASHINGTON - Congressman Vicente Gonzalez today announced that the National Institute of Aging, under the direction of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institute of Health, has awarded $657,603 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's Alzheimer's Disease Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research. The NIA awarded UTRGV $3,276,391 to establish the Partnerships for Progress Center. The Center is one of the AD-RCMAR's aimed to enhance the diversity of the research workforce of minority aging devoted to Alzheimer´s disease.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez's (TX-15) amendment encouraging high schools with U.S. Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) to add cybersecurity coursework was included in the Conference Report to accompany H.R. 5519, the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019. The House adopted the Conference Report by a vote of 359-54 on Thursday, July 26, 2018. The Report now heads to the Senate for consideration.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) $495,042 to assist Department of Computer Science studies on the algorithmic self-assembly of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
The project is under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Robert Schweller, and Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Timothy Wylie. The project began July 1, 2018 and is estimated to continue until June 30, 2021.

EDINBURG — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley received nearly half-a-million-dollars to research and develop a new anti-HIV drug using nanotechnology that could place the academic institution at the forefront of a possible medical breakthrough.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke awarded UTRGV nearly $500,000 in federal funding earlier this month, U.S Rep. Vicente Gonzalez announced Wednesday.
The grant will finance the research and development of a nano-formulated anti-HIV drug.
