EDINBURG, TX— Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the Center for Mental Health Services within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Medicine $101,539 to establish a robust suicide prevention program on its medical school campus.
MCALLEN, TX—Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the Office of Head Start within the Administration for Children and Families, has awarded the Hidalgo County Head Start Program $9,186,984 in project funding. Head Start is a federal program that promotes school readiness for pre-school children from low-income families.
The grant will enable Head Start to continue providing Hidalgo County children and families access to child development programs and other services.
EDINBURG, TX— Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has received $217,950 in federal funding to plan and prepare for a clinical trial on the effectiveness of exposure therapy as a viable treatment option for dental phobia in children. The grant comes from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)'s National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
EDINBURG, TX—Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) $499,985 in federal funding to establish an NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Site. The University's Center for Industrialization and Commercialization (CIC) will house the site and Dr. Mark Kroll will serve as the site's director.

WASHINGTON— Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is glad to announce that the 15th District of Texas will participate in the third Congressional App Challenge (CAC), an app competition for students in high school and below.
The Challenge will run from July 26 through November 1, 2017. The competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. We strongly encourage students of all levels to participate and practice on creating their own apps.
SEGUIN, TX—Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Health Resources and Services Administration has awarded Texas Lutheran University (TLU) more than $490,000 in federal funds. The grant comes from the Department's Nursing Workforce Diversity program and will help fund training and mentorship initiatives within TLU's Department of Nursing.
WESLACO, TX—Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $93,058 in federal funds to IDEA Public Schools in Weslaco as part of the Department's Farm to School Grant program. This implementation grant will enable IDEA to create its "Garden in a Box" toolkit which helps the schools promote the Healthy Kids Here initiative and increase student participation in farming and gardening. This is the second grant IDEA has received from the program.
PHARR, TX—Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that $44,646 in federal funds to the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (ISD) for their Improving Student Achievement Through Nutrition Program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This planning grant will enable the district to partner with Farm to School, an organization that works to improve students' access to healthy, locally grown foods.
