Congressman Gonzalez Announces UTRGV and UTD Collaboration Funding from the NSF

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) has awarded $239,713 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). This funding will fuel a partnership between UTRGV's mathematical sciences units with those of the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).

"The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is cultivating meaningful partnerships that benefit students and promote research," Congressman Gonzalez said. "When higher education institutions work together to face the challenges of tomorrow, a more vibrant, diverse group of students are given the resources necessary to approach these issues today. I'll continue to advocate for federal funds that foster collaboration and investment in South Texas."

The UTRGV coalition will be headed up by Principal Investigator, Timothy Huber; and Co-Principal Investigators: Baofeng Feng, Cristina Villalobos, and Vigil Pierce. With this funding, these individuals will work to will establish a pathway for URTGV students to seek out Ph.D. programs in Mathematical Sciences at UTD.

Congressman Gonzalez has been a steadfast advocate for increasing higher education offerings for residents of the 15th District of Texas and supported partnerships between universities across Texas.
