WASHINGTON – Congressman Gonzalez today issued a statement in response to the Mission Police officer who was shot and killed the evening of Thursday, June 20:

"I was deeply saddened to learn that Mission Police officer Cpl. Joey "Speedy" Espericueta fell in the line of duty. My deepest condolences his family. I will keep them in my prayers," Congressman Gonzalez said. "Our community was kept safe by an officer who paid the ultimate price for us. We must do all we can to prevent senseless violence and crime in our communities and support our men and women on the force."

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the 15th District of Texas was awarded $243,890 in AmeriCorps funding. The OneStar Foundation, Texas's National Service Commission, announced ChildFund International USA as the recipient of the grants.

"I am pleased that AmeriCorps has made such investment in the 15^th District," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Programs like AmeriCorps strengthen our community by educating our youth and providing opportunities for people to make a difference."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) secured crucial language in H.R. 3167, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Reauthorization Act of 2019, a House Financial Services Committee bill that would reauthorize the NFIP, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for five years. The bill passed 59 to 0.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) a $400,000 grant for their Primary Care Training and Enhancement (PCTE) Program.

"All Central and South Texans deserve access to affordable, quality healthcare," said Congressman Gonzalez. "These funds will allow UTRGV to continue educating and training the next generation of medical professionals that will provide top notch, comprehensive care in our region."

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), Dr. Roger Marshall (KS-01), Peter Welch (VT-At Large) and Buddy Carter (GA-01) introduced H.R. 3223, the Pharmacy Benefit Manger Accountability Study Act of 2019. This bipartisan bill directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study on the role pharmaceutical benefit managers play in the pharmaceutical supply chain and serves as a companion to existing Senate efforts.

WASHINGTON – Following the introduction of H.R. 3182, a bill to delay the FASB implementation of the CECL methodology, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez issued the following statement:

"Our financial system craves certainty. It is important that our rules and laws are not constructed in a vacuum or merely react to the changing climate. I am pleased that as a result of our efforts the FASB has begun to change their tune. From small banks to large investment firms, we need to take the adequate time to reassess how this methodology will impact our financial institutions."

McAllen, TX – The office of Congressman Vicente Gonzalez in conjunction with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's ROTC program will host the first-ever Service Academy Day for high school students and recent graduates of the 15th Congressional District of Texas. Students will learn about the admissions process for the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
