June 21, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the 15th District of Texas was awarded $243,890 in AmeriCorps funding. The OneStar Foundation, Texas's National Service Commission, announced ChildFund International USA as the recipient of the grants.

"I am pleased that AmeriCorps has made such investment in the 15th District," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Programs like AmeriCorps strengthen our community by educating our youth and providing opportunities for people to make a difference."

In 2019-2020, AmeriCorps members will serve over 3.6 million hours to benefit the State of Texas and, upon the conclusion of their service, will collectively earn $13 million in education awards to be used for their higher education.

Individuals of all ages and backgrounds will begin training and orientation in the upcoming months in preparation to serve as AmeriCorps members at nonprofits, state agencies, school districts and institutions of higher education throughout the State of Texas and in the 15th District.
