WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) has cosponsored H.R. 824, The Fairness for Federal Contractors Act, bipartisan legislation that would compensate federal contractors for wages lost due to the recent government shutdown. H.R. 824 would provide backpay of up to $1,400 per week for affected contractors.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement following a new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report that the Trump Shutdown cost the U.S. economy $11 billion from Q4 of 2018 to Q1 to 2019. The report states that $3 billion was lost permanently.

"Financial uncertainty for federal employees, economic turmoil in the markets, and a silencing of critical government services are unacceptable – a far cry from anything resembling ‘security.'

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced $99,889,491 in preliminary Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) Title I formula allocations funds for Local Educational Agencies (LEA) in the Rio Grande Valley. The U.S. Department of Education will release final totals in June 2019.

Title I funding assists schools in their efforts to provide students with fair, equal, and significant opportunities to obtain a high-quality education and reach state academic achievement standards and academic assessment goals.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump's announcement to join efforts to reopen the federal government, ending the longest-ever government shutdown – 35 days – in history. The continuing resolution will extend government funding for three weeks until February 15, 2019, and provide backpay to federal employees who have missed paychecks since December 22, 2018.

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) joined the Blue Dog Coalition in a letter to leadership of both parties and both chambers of Congress regarding border security and the government shutdown. So far, the government shutdown is costing the U.S. economy about $26 billion—according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that amount is almost equal to the average cost of damage from a hurricane.
