Nineteen House members say that, come January, they will not vote for any speaker candidate who does not agree to support a package of rules changes that could dramatically change how the chamber operates.

The 10 Democrats and nine Republicans making the pledge belong to the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of centrist lawmakers who have sought to bridge partisan divides, and they say they will stick together and use their leverage to demand that the next speaker — whether it's Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) or someone else — endorse their reform proposals.

WASHINGTON - Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar today announced that U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded $600,000 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. This funding will assist the Frontera Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Development Project which supports Hispanics and veterans in South Texas with development and sustainability in the farming and ranching market.

WASHINGTON - Congressman Vicente Gonzalez has announced that the Center for Mental Health Services has awarded $125,000 to Tropical Texas Behavioral Health. Funding will be used to expand mental health services.

"This funding will help Tropical Texas Behavioral Health offer more consistent and reliable support to individuals with a mental illness," Congressman Gonzalez said. "It is my hope that mental health professionals across Central and South Texas will take advantage of funding opportunities like this to improve the mental health and well-being of our communities."

WASHINGTON - Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar today announced that the U.S. Department of Education's Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program has awarded $88,160 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018.

Grants from UISFL help Institutions of Higher Education or nonprofit organizations, like UTRGV, plan, develop, and carry out programs to strengthen and improve undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages.

PHARR, Texas - The Pharr International Bridge is the largest full-service crossing bridge in the Rio Grande Valley.
Billions of dollars in trade flow across the bridge annually and officials say there is room for growth.

City leaders along with officials from across the Valley implemented a new toll system they say will improve trade and security. More than 2,500 trucks full of goods and trade products cross over bridge daily creating billions of dollars of trade with Mexico annually and that number is expected to grow.

WASHINGTON - Congressman Vicente Gonzalez is encouraging eligible applicants to apply for community development grants from Texas Rural Communities, Inc. (TRC) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency.

"Every dollar of federal funding can help with development projects in South Texas rural communities," Congressman Gonzalez said. "Awards from Texas Rural Communities can elevate these regions and provide every resident in the 15th District of Texas with the tools necessary to strengthen their communities."

WASHINGTON - Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar have announced that the Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $100,000 to South Texas College (STC) in McAllen, Texas for workforce and economic development.

This EDA investment will support South Texas College and the Starr County Industrial Foundation as they develop the Starr County Strategic Plan. The Plan will be focused on diversifying and boosting economic development throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
