WASHINGTON – Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) and Henry Cuellar (TX-28) today announced that U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) awarded $600,000 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. This funding will assist the Frontera Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Development Project which supports Hispanics and veterans in South Texas with development and sustainability in the farming and ranching market.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that Federal Transit Administration has awarded $661,342 from its Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. The funding will assist LRGVDC with the design and construction of new bus shelters – enhancing the experience of riders traveling between Brownsville, Edinburg, and Harlingen.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) has awarded $1,044,198 and $1,202,024 for Fiscal Year 2018 to Edinburg and Pharr, Texas, respectively. WASHINGTON - Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is inviting all eligible high school students in the 15th District of Texas to apply for a nomination to attend the United States service academies beginning in Fall 2019.
These institutions prepare college-age Americans to be officers in the U.S. uniformed services. Upon graduation, service academy graduates join active or reserve status as officers for a minimum of five years. WASHINGTON –Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue's is included Duval and Jim Hogg Counties in a Secretarial Disaster Designation to provide farm operators eligibility and access to recovery assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).
Texas counties affected by recent severe drought and included in this designation are: Atascosa, Duval, Frio, Jim Hogg, Maverick, McMullen, Zapata, and Zavala Counties.

This funding will allow the City of Edinburg Fire Department to hire an expected 12 new firefighters.
