WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) today announced that Federal Transit Administration has awarded $661,342 from its Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. The funding will assist LRGVDC with the design and construction of new bus shelters – enhancing the experience of riders traveling between Brownsville, Edinburg, and Harlingen.

"Public transportation opens doors and keeps our community moving forward," Congressman Gonzalez said. "This new funding will improve the current bus system in South Texas and improve the lives of many more."

"The news of this announcement is a great example of regional partners collaborating for the overall benefit of the citizens of the Rio Grande Valley," LRGVDC Executive Director, Ron Garza said. "With the rapid growth of the region, public transit must continue to support the safety and efficiency demands of passengers. We appreciate the all the support from federal, state and local elected officials as we continue to build regional transit infrastructure."
