Several Community Groups Participate in Inaugural Advocacy Trip

WASHINGTON Today, about 40 community leaders from the Rio Grande Valley arrive in Washington, D.C., for the inaugural RGV2DC fly-in, a week of meetings with members of Congress and federal agency officials.

Congressman Gonzalez (TX-15), along with Congressmen Cuellar (TX-28) and Vela (TX-34), helped the group arrange meetings with congressional leadership and various federal agencies such as the Department of Justice, Department of Transportation, General Services Administration, and Economic Development Administration. The group will also be meeting with Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

“I am pleased to welcome this group of leaders to Washington as they advocate for the needs of Rio Grande Valley residents,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “It is crucial for South Texans to have a seat at the table as both Congress and the Administration begin national conversations on infrastructure, trade, and the myriad of other issues affecting our region.”

Elected leaders, bankers, engineers, ranchers, and a variety of stakeholders from across the Rio Grande Valley are taking part in the trip. Mayor of McAllen, Jim Darling, elected officials from Cameron County, Mission, Pharr, Brownsville as well as senior leadership from the RGV Partnership, University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley, South Texas College, and RGV Hispanic Chamber are among those represented.
