CONGRESSMAN VICENTE GONZALEZ ANNOUNCES OVER $36 MILLION FOR HIDALGO COUNTY HEAD START
Continues to Keep Funds Flowing to Early Childhood Education
WESLACO, TEXAS — Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced a $36,357,958 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Hidalgo County Head Start Program, Inc., for Fiscal Year 2025.
Since 1965, the Head Start Program, housed within the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, promotes school readiness for children aged three to five from low-income households. The program will focus on enhancing cognitive, social, and emotional development with an emphasis on building familial relationships. It is one of the nation’s most effective tools in breaking the cycle of poverty and helping South Texans achieve their American Dream.
“Head Start is crucial for setting our children, regardless of their background, on the path to success,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Early childhood education programs like Head Start provide the foundation to achieve their potential in school and in life. I am committed to protecting this vital program so that South Texas children can continue to benefit and thrive.”
This program serves 3,060 children in Hidalgo County and is one of the largest Head Start programs in Texas. For over four decades, Hidalgo County Head Start Program, Inc. has been delivering comprehensive child development services to advance the economic and social well-being of children and families in South Texas.
