Congressman Vicente Gonzalez Announces $26.7 Million Grant for NINOS Head Start
Funds will support Head Start families in Cameron and Willacy Counties
RIO HONDO, T.X.– Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced a substantial grant of $26,763,327 awarded to Neighbors in Need of Services, Inc. (NINOS) by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support the Head Start Projects operated by NINOS. The award comes from HHS discretionary funding for FY2024, which Congressman Gonzalez helped pass.
"This funding will significantly enhance early childhood education services for South Texas families,” said Congressman Gonzalez. And it underscores our commitment to ensuring the developmental success of our young children. Families will now directly benefit from enhanced Head Start and Early Head Start services provided by NINOS."

The funding awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services will enable us to continue providing Head Start and Early Head Start services to over 2,000 of the neediest families in Cameron and Willacy Counties,” said David Kowalski, Executive Director of NINOS, Inc.
