Congressman Gonzalez's Statement on Governor Greg Abbott's Declaration of State of Disaster

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott declaring a state of disaster in the Rio Grande Valley following the severe flooding in recent days:

"I thank Governor Greg Abbott for declaring a state of disaster in the Rio Grande Valley. Severe flooding has once again devastated our community," said Congressman Gonzalez. "We have been monitoring the situation in the Valley closely and I look forward to working with our state and local partners to ensure that county officials are able to take the necessary and appropriate steps to respond to these events. I will now work with the Texas Delegation, Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and Congressmen Henry Cuellar and Filemon Vela, to request that the President declare it a national disaster so FEMA and other federal agencies can provide the needed funds to our communities."
