CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ VOTES FOR NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT TO SUPPORT SERVICE MEMBERS AND MILITARY FAMILIES, STRENGTHENING NATIONAL SECURITY
Gonzalez Amendment on Deported Veterans Report Passes
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Gonzalez (TX-15) voted in favor of the House Amendment to the Senate Amendment to H.R. 7776, the James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 (NDAA), that authorizes $847 billion in discretionary spending to support service members, invests in modern technology, bolsters defense, and maintains strong national security at home and abroad.
"Our service members deserve cutting-edge resources to continue to lead," stated Congressman Gonzalez. "As the son of a Veteran, I am proud to vote for this vital piece of legislation that includes the necessary funding to keep our military ready to address threats against our nation and support research initiatives so that America continues to lead the way in technological advances. Rest assured, I will continue to be a strong advocate for our military and our veterans. We must take care of the brave men and women who continue to protect the freedoms we enjoy every single day."
Congressman Gonzalez introduced and successfully passed an amendment that requires the Secretary of Defense to provide an annual report to Congress on the number of non-citizen members of the Armed Forces, their immigration status, and how many naturalized that year.
The NDAA includes a 4.6% pay raise for service members, adds funds to Basic Allowance for Housing, increases the maximum allowable income to receive the Basic Needs Allowance to 150% of the federal poverty line, and adds $210 million for commissary funding to offset higher costs.
