September 16, 2022

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) voted in favor of H.R. 8326, the Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Act. This legislation aims to maintain the operational fidelity and enhance the institutional independence of the Census Bureau and its operations over time.

"The Census is a vital part of American institutions that not only ensures an accurate count of our population, but directly impacts communities by determining who represents them in Congress and access to critical community funds to address some of the most crucial issues affecting our constituents," stated Congressman Gonzalez. "I proudly vote in favor of this legislation to strengthen our Census Bureau and ensure they have the tools and independence to collect quality data."

The Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Act would support budgetary and operational planning of the Census Bureau. It would also protect against political interference in the Census Bureau.

The bill also will ensure that any information to be collected on a future census has been submitted to Congress, thoroughly analyzed and certified by the Census Bureau, and reviewed by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
