Congressman Gonzalez Votes to Avoid Government Shutdown

December 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) released a statement following his vote on the second continuing resolution:

“This continuing resolution is not perfect,” said Congressman Gonzalez. The new plan laid out by House Republicans still does not include bipartisan agreements on crucial funding for cancer research initiatives or provisions to further lower prescription drug pricing.”

“However, federal government shutdowns negatively impact the lives of South Texans and millions of people in our country. They harm working families and our national security alike. This stopgap bill keeps our government open, delivers a vital $100 billion in supplemental emergency aid throughout our country, extends the 2018 Farm Bill, and provides economic assistance to our farmers until Congress can pass a new Farm Bill.”

“After House Republicans took back their word on the previously agreed upon funding bill our trust is damaged. It is my hope that in this next Congress, we are able to rebuild that trust and work together in a bipartisan manner to deliver for our constituents.”
