Congressman Gonzalez Votes to Avoid Federal Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) voted in support of a continuing resolution to keep the federal government funded past the November 17, 2023, deadline.
“The fact is, we just narrowly avoided a government shutdown in October,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “We cannot continue to hold the American people hostage for the sake of a political agenda. Shutdowns have adverse impacts on every part of the country, national economy, and national security. This continuing resolution is a victory, as it does not claw back funding and is set at the Fiscal Year 2023 funding level. By voting yes, we will ensure military personnel and critical government employees like our U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agents and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents, are paid through the holidays.”
The continuing resolution awaits consideration in the U.S. Senate and, if passed, by President Biden.
