Congressman Gonzalez to Vote Yes on American Rescue Plan

February 26, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that he would vote in favor of the American Rescue Plan proposed by President Joe Biden. The American Rescue Plan is a $1.9 trillion economic relief package that would help American families and small businesses struggling to make ends meet.

"This relief package is a moral necessity and delivers on the promise that no Central and South Texans will be left behind in this time of need," said Congressman Gonzalez. "I am proud to be voting in favor of this legislation that will revitalize our economy and deliver immediate relief to those who are bearing the brunt of the crisis and working day and night to keep our communities safe."

The American Rescue Plan, if passed and signed into law, would deliver roughly more than $427 million for counties and local governments and $1.1 billion for schools in the 15th District of Texas.

The American Rescue Plan would:

  • Mount a national vaccination program, contain COVID-19, and safely reopen schools by setting up community vaccination sites nationwide, scaling up testing and tracing, eliminating supply shortage problems, investing in high-quality treatments, providing paid sick leave to contain the spread of the virus, addressing health disparities, and making the necessary investments to safely reopening a majority of K-8 schools.
  • Deliver immediate relief to working families bearing the brunt of this crisis by sending $1,400 per-person checks to households across America, providing direct housing and nutrition assistance, expanding access to safe and reliable childcare and affordable healthcare, extending unemployment insurance, and giving families with children and childless workers an emergency boost this year.
  • Support communities that are struggling in the wake of COVID-19 by providing support for the hardest-hit small businesses, especially small businesses owned by entrepreneurs of color, and protecting the jobs of the first responders, transit workers, and other essential workers we depend on.
