Congressman Gonzalez Urges USPS Postmaster General to Halt Plans to Consolidate Corpus Christi, McAllen, and San Antonio Mail Processing Operations

April 5, 2024

Changes Would Negatively Impact Mail Delivery for South Texas

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Yesterday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) joined three of his Texas Democratic Congressional colleagues in sending a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy outlining concerns with the United States Postal Service (USPS) plan to consolidate mail processing operations from Corpus Christi and McAllen to San Antonio. The proposed change will likely lead to increased disruptions and slower mail delivery times throughout South Texas.

“It is our understanding that the San Antonio P&DC facility is too old and too small to house new equipment necessary to sort more mail. The facility is already struggling to process normal mail streams. Just this past holiday season, several local news stations reported that the San Antonio USPS had a major backlog of packages to deliver...San Antonio is not equipped to handle the increased influx of mail” the lawmakers wrote in the letter.

Joining Congressman Gonzalez were Congressmen Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Henry Cuellar (TX-28), and Greg Casar (TX-35).
