Congressman Gonzalez Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Block Census Citizenship Question
June 27, 2019
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court of the United States ruling on the case of U.S. Department of Commerce v. New York:
"The Administration's decision to include a citizenship status question in the upcoming 2020 Census was meant to suppress the participation of people living in regions like ours and reduce the political representation of people in South and Central Texas," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Today's Supreme Court ruling is a victory for fairness and upholds the principles of our democracy. I will continue to fight to ensure that every person is counted and that the South and Central Texas receives the critical federal funding and representation it deserves."
