Congressman Gonzalez Statement on State Disaster Declaration in Response to Drought Conditions in South Texas

August 26, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement following Texas Governor Greg Abbott's issuance of a disaster declaration in response to drought conditions in South Texas:

"I thank Texas Governor Greg Abbott for issuing a disaster declaration in response to the severe drought conditions in South Texas," said Congressman Vicente Gonzalez. "Drought is causing an increased threat of wildfire and hurting local communities and their economies in the 15th District of Texas and others. I will stay in close communication with Duval and Jim Hogg County officials and intend to work with Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz (R-TX) and my House colleagues in neighboring districts to have the Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue issue a federal declaration of drought so that producers in the region can access the assistance they need."
