Congressman Gonzalez Statement Regarding the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge

July 21, 2017

WASHINGTON— Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) released the following statement regarding the potential construction of a fence at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge.

"I am concerned by recent reports about plans to construct a border fence through the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge – one of our country's most precious refuges," said Congressman Gonzalez.

"As I have previously stated, I am adamantly opposed to the construction of a wall or additional fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, especially because it could harm South Texas' wildlife and tourism industry. The wall would also be expensive and a poor use of taxpayer money. I call on the Department of Homeland Security to share more details with, and seek greater input from, the entire South Texas Delegation."
