Congressman Gonzalez Statement on Reaching USMCA Deal

December 10, 2019

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement following the announcement that House negotiators reached a deal on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):

"It is welcome news that Mexico, Canada and the United States were able to reach an agreement on this historic trade deal. While the USMCA raises the bar for enforcement and provides certainty for our farmers, ranchers, and businesses, it still falls short," said Congressman Gonzalez. "This agreement fails to address the single greatest threat to cross-border commerce and tourism: chronic violence and insecurity. I intend to continue pressing the governments of both the United States and Mexico until our neighbor to the south takes this seriously. The 15th District and the state of Texas stand to gain from this trade pact and a safe and secure Mexico."
