Congressman Gonzalez Statement on Partisan Israel Supplemental Funding
Bill Would Delay Vital Aid to Israel
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) released the following statement on his vote against House Republican’s partisan bill that would delay emergency aid to Israel.
“We must ensure that Israel receives the urgent aid it needs to protect its people from further attacks. It is because of this urgency that I cannot in good conscience vote on a bill that has no chance of passing the Senate and that the President has declared he would veto.
Instead of putting forth a bipartisan supplemental package, one which would expediently pass Congress, Speaker Johnson has decided to push forth a political agenda jeopardizing Israeli security and safety.
Since the attacks of October 7th, 2023, over 7,000 rockets have been launched at densely populated areas in southern and central Israel. The Iron Dome defense system must be quickly replenished to prevent further loss of life.
Providing emergency security assistance to a key ally is something we should all agree on. This bill is not only a disappointing display of theatrics but sets a dangerous precedent of conditioning international aid on national politics.”
