Congressman Gonzalez Statement on Fallen U.S. Capitol Police Officer

January 8, 2021

WASHINGTON – Late Thursday evening, Officer Brian D. Sicknick of the U.S. Capitol Police passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the violent insurrection by domestic terrorists on the U.S. Capitol. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) was in the U.S. House of Representatives chambers when the domestic terrorists breached the chamber doors. Congressman Gonzalez issued the following statement:

"Officer Sicknick gave his life to protect those of us during the insurrection and siege of the Capitol. While his actions were valiant and heroic, this never should have happened. These domestic terrorists, directly incited by the President, have the death of an innocent and brave officer on their hands. I hope that the Justice Department will act swiftly on this case and bring closure to Officer Sicknick's family. Lorena and I extend our sincerest condolences to Officer Sicknick's family and friends on their tragic loss."
