Congressman Gonzalez Statement on Agreement to Release Israeli Hostages Held by Hamas

BROWNSVILLE, TX – Last week, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) released the following statement on the recent negotiations that will allow at least 50 hostages, including American citizens, to be released. The deal comes after weeks of negotiations by the Biden administration.  
 
“On October 7th, the United States made a promise to stand by Israel and ensure all the remaining hostages brutally taken by Hamas come home. The first stage of this agreement will ensure that at least 50 of the hostages are released. This is a welcome step in our mission to support our ally during one of the darkest days in their history. We will do everything we can to ensure that the remaining hostages are released safely and promptly.    
 
I thank the Biden administration’s tireless work and leadership to ensure that the hostages are safely released and that further humanitarian aid can reach innocent civilians in Gaza.
 
Once Congress resumes session, we must pass bipartisan supplemental emergency funding for Israel to support their recovery, replenish their defenses, and ensure a tragedy like this does not happen again.”
