Congressman Gonzalez Statement Affirming the United States Record on the Armenian Genocide

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued a statement following the vote on H.Res. 296, Affirming the United States record on the Armenian Genocide:

"For too long the U.S. government has fallen short of calling the slaughter of millions of innocent Armenians what it is – a genocide. As Turkey falls further into the grips of an authoritarian dictator who actively seeks to limit the freedom of speech, we celebrate ours," said Congressman Gonzalez. "Today's vote to formally recognize the Armenian genocide will be remembered as a day of moral clarity for the United States, and I hope as Americans we will always speak out against genocide and ethnic cleansing in all its forms. I am proud to support this resolution and stand with Armenia."
