Brownsville, TX — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced a $3,193,735 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to reconstruct the final phase of Runway 18/36 at the Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport (BRO).

“This investment is a major win for Brownsville,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we will strengthen our infrastructure and support long-term growth. I remain committed to modernizing and expanding our airports to better serve our region’s growing economy and population.”

"The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport is an important gateway to South Texas, and these federal dollars ensure that it will continue to grow safely and sustainably,” said Mayor John Cowen, Jr., City of Brownsville. “Thanks in part to Congressman Vicente Gonzalez and the FAA, the recently awarded $3.2 million are helping to lay the foundation for a transformative runway renovation project. This will prepare us for the future by supporting more flights, stronger economic opportunities, and a safer, more modern airport”.

"This runway renovation project is critical to keeping our airport competitive and ready for the future,” said Angel Ramos, Director, Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. “Reconstructing Runway 18/36 will enhance safety standards and will allow us to better serve both passengers and cargo carriers.
