CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ SECURES OVER $23.7 MILLION IN COMMUNITY PROJECTS FOR SOUTH TEXAS
INCLUDED IN PASSAGE IS CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ’S BILL TO ADDRESS VETERAN HOMELESSNESS
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) voted to pass the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) Omnibus Appropriations package to fund the federal government and provide supplemental funding to Ukraine. This package includes $23,796,378 for local community projects located throughout the 15th Congressional District of Texas. Congressman Gonzalez also successfully included H.R. 6810, the Housing our Veterans Act, which takes steps to address veteran homelessness.
"This federal funding will allow the United States to deliver on its promise to invest in the American people ," stated Congressman Gonzalez. "The FY23 omnibus appropriations bill will help American families by creating better-paying jobs, help small business owner s and entrepreneurs access capital, keep our communities safe by supporting local, state, and federal law enforcement, increase military pay by 4.6 percent and ensure our military is well equipped to overcome challenges both domestically and abroad. I am also proud to bring home over $23.7 million to support community centers, improve drainage and roads, and give our children a brighter future.
"Additionally, I am proud that my legislation, H.R. 6810, the Housing Our Veterans Act, was included in this critical legislation . This will allow us to gain a clearer picture of the housing challenges our veterans face so we can fully address housing affordability and homelessness among veterans.
"As we wrap up the 117th Congress, rest assured that I will continue to be South Texas' loudest advocate and work to ensure that our community is served and supported."
H.R. 6810, the Housing our Veterans Act, requires the GAO to conduct a study on the availability of affordable housing for veterans participating in homelessness programs through the Department of Veterans Affairs and the impact this availability has on veterans seeking permanent shelter.
