Congressman Gonzalez Secures Over $15 Million in Community Project Funding for South Texas
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) voted to pass the remaining six bills of the fiscal year 2024 government funding package. Together with the previous six-bill package, Congressman Gonzalez secured a total of $15,622,100 in Community Project Funding for the 34th Congressional District of Texas.
“By passing this final tranche of long-awaited funding bills, the U.S. House of Representatives has avoided a devastating and unnecessary partial government shutdown and provided vital funding for our region,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “I am proud to deliver millions of dollars to improve roads and drainage, support local law enforcement, and increase economic development in South Texas. This bill also strengthens our national security and our Southern Border as it includes $495 million for 22,000 U.S. Border Patrol Agents and $20 million for 150 additional U.S. CBP Officers. These are great investments, but Congress must still pass the Senate’s bipartisan border security package.”
Federal funding projects secured by Congressman Gonzalez:
$273,000 for the Brownsville Police Department Storage
$963,000 for the Cameron County Sheriff Operation Border Shield
$648,000 for the Harlingen Public Safety Communication Equipment Upgrades
$562,000 for the UTRGV Coastal Ecosystems
$2,017,000 for the Resacas at Brownsville, TX
$959,752 for the City of San Benito for Ground Storage Tank and SCADA System
$850,000 for the City of Edcouch Detention Pond
$500,000 for the Combes Lateral Drain
$850,000 for the New VFW Post 2410 Building

$1,116,279 for the Port of Brownsville Vessel Suitability Analysis and Feasibility
$1,383,069 for the City of Harlingen’s 5th and 7th Streets Storm Sewer Drainage Improvements
This bill will fund the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, State and the Legislative Branch. The bill awaits further action in the Senate. Once passed, it will go to the President’s desk for signature. Earlier this month, Congressman Gonzalez voted for legislation to fund the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Commerce, and Energy.
