Congressman Gonzalez Secures More Than $12.3 Million for South Texas in INVEST in America Act

July 6, 2021
Press Release

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, July 2, 2021, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) secured $12,384,078 in funding for four key infrastructure projects in his district in South Texas with the passage of H.R. 3684 the INVEST in America Act, a transformative five-year, $547 billion surface transportation reauthorization bill that includes selected Member Designated Projects.

“The INVEST in America Act will spur pandemic recovery, increase economic growth, and create jobs in the 15th District of Texas,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “The projects that were chosen will help expand trade and tourism, grow our economy and help South Texas thrive. These federal dollars will flow directly to our communities and it’s now up to Senator Cruz and Cornyn to bring this funding home.”

“This transportation project for South McAllen will help better serve our community who utilizes public transportation the most to help them get to work, to school, to doctors’ appointments or other vital trips for their families,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. “We are grateful to Cong. Gonzalez and all our Rio Grande Valley elected leaders who voted for this much-needed project to help infuse economic growth and development by spurring transportation projects that are the backbone of our local communities.”

“This federal infrastructure stimulus bill for transportation projects will help complete much-needed projects for McAllen much sooner than would have been possible if funding came from local sources only,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. “This federal infusion of infrastructure dollars will help McAllen further develop a more complete transportation hub to enhance its public transportation system.”

“The City of Pharr is grateful for this considerable investment in infrastructure projects that will make a significant impact and benefit our community of Pharr, South Texas as a region, and our nation as a whole. We thank Congressman Gonzalez and our congressional leaders for continuing to prioritize and fund infrastructure projects that will promote international trade and commerce,” said Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez, Mayor, City of Pharr.

The INVEST in America Act will now head to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

  • The McAllen South Park and Ride Project and Electric Bus Expansion
