Congressman Gonzalez Secures Amendments in House Fiscal Year 2025 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Funding Bill

June 6, 2024

Amendments would make progress toward bringing veteran resources to South Texas

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34)announced that two of his amendments were included in the House version of the fiscal year 2025 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill (one of twelve appropriations bills needed to fund the federal government). One of the amendments would direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to create a report to Congress identifying areas that would benefit from veteran cemeteries furthering the Congressman's work to bring additional veteran resources to South Texas. The other emphasizes the need for the Secretary to allow the internment of Military Working Dogs in veterans cemeteries. This was inspired by the story of Sgt. Fieldy, a brave military working dog who saved countless lives by detecting hidden IEDs during multiple tours in Afghanistan.

“We must do everything we can to honor our veterans in life and in death,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “My amendments highlight the need for additional resources and places to honor those who bravely served. I am pleased to see this legislation included in the House-passed bill. There is so much more we need to do for our service members, and I will continue to work to ensure the United States keeps our promise to our veterans.”
