CONGRESSMAN GONZALEZ’S STATEMENT RESPONDING TO PRESIDENT BIDEN’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address to the United States Congress:
"The American people have proven time and time again that we are resilient. Throughout our history we have overcome our collective challenges by uniting in our differences for the common good and creating a clear vision for the future. Tonight, President Biden has called on us to come together once again, as one America, regardless of party, so that we may achieve our shared goal of a better life for all who call the United States home. I agree with the President; we need to put aside our partisan bickering and find common sense solutions to get things done.
I am proud of the work Congress and this Administration have done to get Americans back on their feet after a devastating pandemic. The American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law are getting Americans back to work, keeping schools open, fixing roads and bridges, and spurring the fastest economic growth in American history.
I also call on President Biden to stick to his campaign promise to further address the student loan crisis. We must not let student loan forgiveness fall by the wayside. President Biden must address the student loan crisis that is stifling the American dream and limiting the economic mobility of millions of Americans. The President and Congress must work together to lower prescription drug prices and make health care more affordable, especially in states that have not expanded Medicaid like Texas. These issues won't be solved overnight, but I am confident we can find resolutions to these issues. The only way to create a better future is through bipartisan efforts that focus on the issues the American people sent us here to solve."
