Congressman Gonzalez Requests Immediate Action from Hidalgo County Veterans to Continue Operation Bravo Zulu

This program helps veterans reduce burden of costly utility bills.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) is encouraging Hidalgo County veterans to apply for Operation Bravo Zulu, supported through the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans' Assistance and offered through the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency. This program provides eligible veterans with financial assistance for utility services.

Hidalgo County Community Service Agency is looking to fulfill 275-300 more applications to retain current funding allocations. If application turnout does not meet preassessment standards, future funding may face decline. Applications are being accepted through the end of June 2019.

"Decreasing financial burdens for our veterans is critical," Congressman Gonzalez said. "I thank Operation Bravo Zulu for supporting area veterans. It is imperative that we keep this program alive, so that our veterans can keep their utilities on."

To become eligible, veterans must meet the following requirements:

· Must be an honorably discharged veteran living in Hidalgo County.

· Must meet income guidelines (0 – 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level). All sources of income for the last 30 days.

· Complete Hidalgo County Community Service Agency (HCCSA) 2019 Program Application.

· Provide DD-214 Form or other military documentation.

· Present a 2019 VA Benefits Letter (Service Connected Disability). *

· Veteran must be present to complete application process.

· Veterans must bring current utility bills.

· Proof of citizenship/birth certificate or legal residency and valid state/government issued ID.

*Veteran service connected disability compensation is not counted as income.
