Congressman Gonzalez reacts to Title 42 staying in place, calls on Congress and President Biden to address immigration
McAllen, Texas – Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States issued a stay of Title 42:
"While I am relieved to see Title 42 stay in place, we are still facing a problem at our southern border unlike any in modern history. We need comprehensive, common sense and long-term solutions to solve these issues while ensuring the humane treatment of migrants, expelling criminals, and ensuring the health and safety of Americans.
"Republicans and Democrats need to stop pointing fingers and playing politics with people's lives and actually solve these problems. Real solutions to this crisis are adequately funding Border Patrol, hiring more immigration judges, funding our immigration courts, and effectively processing asylum claims. My bill, the Safe Zones Act, will allow migrants to apply for asylum closer to their country of origin. This will the relieve the pressure on our southern border and will also take the cartel element out of the equation.
"We need to address the root causes and meet the immediate needs of this crisis. I will continue working with the Biden Administration and my Congressional colleagues to get this done."
