Congressman Gonzalez Provides Update on Hurricane Harvey

August 24, 2017

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued an update regarding Hurricane Harvey, which is expected to make landfall on the Texas Coast in the upcoming days. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the storm strengthened quickly and has officially been upgraded from a Tropical Depression to a Hurricane.

With the increased strength and forward motion, this storm activity warrants Hurricane Warnings being issued with a potential landfall in two days. The Texas Coastal Bend will experience heavy rainfall with lower probabilities of heavy rainfall moving farther into portions of the Rio Grande.

"As Hurricane Harvey approaches our area, I ask all South Texans to pay close attention to weather reports and warnings and adhere to the instructions of emergency management officials," Congressman Gonzalez said. "I will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Harvey and work with state, federal, and local officials to ensure that the necessary resources and plans are in place."

The office of Congressman Gonzalez will participate in a call with the National Weather Service Director and FEMA Region VI Administrator as well as NOAA officials this afternoon.

Congressman Gonzalez remains in contact with the Texas Division of Emergency Management, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Congressman Gonzalez has assembled a list of resources available for constituents of the 15th District of Texas and will update the list as more information becomes available:
