Congressman Gonzalez Mourns the Assassination of Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), a member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement in response to the tragic death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe:
"My prayers are with the family of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the people of Japan. As Japan's longest serving prime minister, he brought Japan into the 21st century with a robust foreign policy that maintained a close relationship with the U.S. and our allies. The world has lost a diplomatic giant whose legacy will have long lasting effects in Japan and around the world."
Congressman Gonzalez had the honor of meeting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2018 during a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Japan where he participated in discussions on the importance of fair trade and national security.
