Congressman Gonzalez Met with Texas Farm Bureau About Cattle Fever Tick Outbreak in Live Oak

GEORGE WEST, TX— Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) joined thirty members of the Texas Farm Bureau at the Live Oak County Fairgrounds in George West on Wednesday to discuss the cattle fever tick outbreak and other issues important to South Texas farmers and ranchers. Texas Farm Bureau State Director, Zack Yanta, of Karnes County in the congressman’s district, introduced Congressman Gonzalez before the group.

“I would like to thank the Texas Farm Bureau for meeting with me and giving me an in-depth brief of the realities of this recent outbreak,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “Rest assured that I will take this input back with me to Washington and continue encouraging our federal agencies and my colleagues in Congress to take serious steps to contain the outbreak and eradicate this devastating disease.”

After Congressman Gonzalez spoke to those in attendance, the meeting opened up for questions to discuss an array of other important issues including, the Farm Bill and crop insurance.

“We appreciate Congressman Gonzalez meeting with us,” said Scott Frazier, a member of the Texas Farm Bureau Board of Directors who attended the meeting. “The fever tick is an enormous problem for ranchers in South Texas and it could potentially be devastating. The Congressman’s willingness to examine this issue and its impact on our economy is the beginning of a serious discussion.”
