Congressman Gonzalez Marks 53rd Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing Medicare and Medicaid into law on July 30, 1965:

"Over half a century ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson laid the foundation for millions of working families and senior citizens to live healthier, more prosperous lives. When Congress fails to allocate sufficient funding, or even worse – cuts funding - millions of Americans who rely on Medicare and Medicaid pay the price. Our fellow Americans are counting on us to protect these vital programs and expand access to affordable, quality care. It is up to us to build upon this landmark legislation and revitalize the work of President Johnson."
