Congressman Gonzalez Joins Bipartisan Effort to Provide Backpay for Government Contractors Affected by Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) has cosponsored H.R. 824, The Fairness for Federal Contractors Act, bipartisan legislation that would compensate federal contractors for wages lost due to the recent government shutdown. H.R. 824 would provide backpay of up to $1,400 per week for affected contractors.
"It is important that Congress address the severe consequences of the recent government shutdown," Congressman Gonzalez said. "In Texas alone, at least 35,000 federal employees experienced inexcusable payment lapses. These individuals deserve to get paid, and so do the contractors that support our efforts. Contractor are small business owners we all know and depend on, and I am proud to join this bipartisan legislation to provide them their missing, hard-earned income."
Congressman Gonzalez will continue to advocate for federal workers and contractors. The congressman remains a supporter of smart, practical funding solutions that keep Americans and the U.S. economy afloat.
