Congressman Gonzalez Issues Update on FEMA Major Disaster Declaration for Guadalupe County
WASHINGTON – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued an update regarding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)'s Federal Major Disaster Declaration for counties in Texas' 15th District. On Wednesday, President Donald J. Trump amended his disaster declaration from August 25, 2017 to authorize Federal funds for Guadalupe County. Karnes County, also in the 15th District, was previously included in the Declaration.
"The road to recovery will be long," Congressman Gonzalez said. "But I am pleased to see Guadalupe County included in the latest amendment to the Major Disaster Declaration. Rest assured that I will continue to work with federal, state, and local officials to ensure that every area is able to rebuild."
On Friday, August 25, 2017, President Trump issued a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Texas that allowed federal funding to be accessible to communities affected by Hurricane Harvey. This week, the executive branch designated Guadalupe County as a Public Assistance-Designated County, making it eligible to receive federal assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. The original declaration included Karnes County as an area that would receive assistance for debris removal and emergency protective measures, but would also include direct federal assistance.
Congressman Gonzalez looks forward to a timely and efficient recovery relief effort that will ultimately allow South Texans to safely return to their homes and to work.
